Maritime Expert Conference - "Bavaria and the sea - our maritime interests"
On Saturday, 13 July 2013 a conference of maritime experts will be held in the town hall in Freilassing, Bavaria from 11:00 to 13:00 o'clock.
The speakers are:
Dr. Peter Ramsauer, Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Development
Vice Admiral Heinrich Lange, Deputy Chief of the German Navy
Dr. Lars Rohweder of the Nautical Club in Kiel
Heinz Bannasch, Senior Vice President Rheinmetall Defence
The conference will discuss the maritime dependency of Germany and her economy, especially focussing on the question of how the people and the economy in Southern Germany are dependent on operational maritime transport routes and sea ports. For any car built in Germany, about 40 different raw materials must be imported - usually by ship. On the other hand, also the export of cars "Made in Germany" to the overseas market are only possible by using sea transport. To protect these vital sea lanes, it requires a powerful German Navy.
